The Hindustan Ambassador is an Indian legend in the automotive sector. It is seen as a status symbol throughout the nation and is used by politicians and government staff on official duty. Throughout the years it has changed little in design and under the roof. The production of this Indian Beast was stopped in 2014. Now, DC Designs have come up with an all-electric version of the ambassador. DC2 has showcased an all-new concept that brings back the iconic Ambassador in a completely new avatar. And it's not just the design that's changed, this iteration of the Amby is all-electric.
Design:
DC has released images of what the new Amby would look like. The new version adopts several features of the icon like the squared wheel arches and curved front fenders; while sporting modern changes in the massive chrome grille and new angular LED lights. The symbolic nose bulge on the bonnet which adds a flavour of nostalgia.

This Amby is not at all trying to be sleek and boasts a nice stout appearance. The compact proportions of the car will particular be suited for the city. This is embodied by the strong shoulder line which extends from the front door across to the boot lid. The render also tastefully uses chrome decals which are blended ingeniously with the glossy dark paint-job of the car. The look is finished with squared LED taillights which add a touch of elegance to this otherwise artistic vehicle.
The electric Amby is taller and sits lower than the original ambassador. This provides a stable drive and low centre of gravity. DC smartly added a battery under the floor which saves on internal space. The Amby has been created with a lot of lot of carbon composite materials hence reducing weight and improving structural integrity.
Interior:
Not much is known about the interiors of this electric Ambassador by DC Design but considering from what we have seen from DC, the interiors will be bespoke and very customizable too. Interestingly, the electric Amby will take over the Avanti’s assembly line that ends production and will be replaced by the TCA sports car showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.

DC said that the cabin of the Amby would be heavily inspired by the original Ambassador with touches of modern technology. The idea is to have a luxury car out there, that will retail at half the price of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Rs.35 Lakhs, to be precise, while offering more space and comfort.
Production and Specifications:
Four cars have been readied and the e-Amby’s first prototype is currently with a company in Switzerland who are developing a plug and play system for the car. DC have received a massive response for the Amby. DC says that the car will be production ready and will be officially launched in 2021.

Dilip Chhabria (Founder, DC designs) has claimed that the car will be able to achieve 0-60 km/h in around 4 seconds. The Amby will be able to drive 250km in a single charge while the battery details have not been shared by DC.
The DC2 e-Amby measures approximately 125 mm more in width and 170 mm more in length than the Hindustan Motors Ambassador. Its chassis will be an aluminium space frame with the central part made of carbon composite.
